Hundreds of older people from High Wycombe attended an information day recently to find out more about ExtraCare’s Hughenden Gardens Retirement Village, due to open in 2018.
The Village is being built on a five-acre site on Hughenden Road, next to Morrison’s at the north of High Wycombe town centre.
Ann Barber, who attended the information day with her daughter, has been interested in Hughenden Gardens Village since visiting a friend who lives in an ExtraCare’s Lovat Fields Village in Milton Keynes.
Ann currently lives in Norfolk, but wants to move back to the area to be near her daughter.
She said: “I just can’t wait. I’ve visited another ExtraCare Village and I just think it’s a wonderful way of older people being looked after, without being put in a nursing home.”
Ann was one of over 350 people who attended the information day, where local older people were given the opportunity to ask questions of ExtraCare staff, see models of the Village, and even meet ExtraCare residents from other Villages.
More than 500 people have now registered their interest in moving to the Village.
Apartments at Hughenden Gardens Village will be available for purchase, shared ownership and rental.
Care will be available on site for residents who are assessed as needing support to live independently.
