ExtraCare achieves two ‘outstanding’ ratings by CQC

Residents and staff at The ExtraCare Charitable Trust’s Brunswick Gardens Village in Sheffield and Reeve Court Village in St Helens are celebrating an ‘outstanding’ rating for the quality of their care service following recent inspections by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The two awards take the total of ExtraCare’s villages to be rated ‘outstanding’ to twenty percent – a fantastic result for the charity and its 4,500 residents.

Highlighting the care, support, and activities at Brunswick, the latest CQC report stated: “People received a comprehensive assessment of their care and support needs which gave clear guidance on the support people needed. Care is personalised and flexible so that each person’s support reflected their preferences. The range of activities was extensive and varied providing outstanding choices which supported people to live meaningful, active and fulfilling lives.”

The ratings follow the charity’s recent research results with Aston and Lancaster Universities that found that residents living in its retirement communities are less anxious, more active and less likely to fall. The study also revealed a 14.8% reductions in depressive symptoms amongst residents after three years, and annual NHS savings of 38% per person.

ExtraCare has been operating in Sheffield since 2008 and St Helens since 2004. The two Villages provide homes, care and an inspirational lifestyle to more than 450 older people living in 423 apartment homes with a wide range of facilities including a restaurant and café bar, village hall, fitness gym, craft room, woodwork room, IT suite, hairdressing salon and library.

Regular activities which are open to both residents, volunteers and the wider community representing all ages may include: Tai chi, gym, cycling, model railways, choir singing, gardening and regular social events.

The Villages are both a partnership. ExtraCare manages the services and the buildings are owned by our housing partner Your Housing Group. Homes are affordable with a range of outright purchase, shared ownership, and tenancy options available.

This has been a combined effort for all staff involved to ensure we give the correct and quality support to our residents. The residents and family tell us how good we are and now it has been supported by CQC.”
