Our mission

Creating sustainable communities that provide:

  • Homes older people want
  • Lifestyles they can enjoy, and
  • Care if it’s needed.

To deliver our vision and mission we essentially do three things: we develop new villages, we operate villages and schemes, and we support our villages, schemes and our ‘extra-care’ model through fundraising, advocacy and research.

We’re a charity that really does create better lives for older people and not just by building fantastic buildings and providing first class facilities.

How we’re unique

Charity

We are a Charitable Trust.

Our surpluses are reinvested to improve our residents’ lives.

We have no shareholders and are governed by our unpaid Board of Trustees.

 

 

Holistic Model

Our holistic model comprises:

• Homes people want

• A lifestyle they can enjoy

• Care if it’s needed

This is unique and research has proven this approach can have life-changing benefits for our residents and their families. It also reduces the pressure on the NHS and social care system.

Mixed Tenure

Our tenure options comprise of:

• Outright ownership (35%)

• Shared ownership (32%)

• Social rent (33%)

This makes our offer affordable and suitable for a wide range of residents and adds to the diversity of our communities.

Scale

Our locations are typically:

• 260+ apartments

• 10-15 communal facilities

• 300-400 residents

This scale is unique for the UK and similar to villages in the US, Australia or New Zealand.

We’re a charity that really does create better lives for older people, and not just by building fantastic buildings and providing incredible facilities.

Our staff make the biggest difference: working together, living our values, and providing a quality person-centred service to be proud of. By being empowering, compassionate, collaborative and transparent in all we do ExtraCare strives to create a workplace that fully reflects society.
