Solihull Village shortlisted for Inside Housing Development Award
ExtraCare’s Solihull Retirement Village has been shortlisted as a finalist for Best older people housing development – urban at this year’s ‘Inside Housing Development Awards’.
The awards celebrate the very best in residential development across the UK. The category specifically recognises homes for older people that are desirable and are well designed to meet current and future care and support needs.
An expert panel of judges narrowed down the list of entries across the categories and will subsequently meet to discuss and decide the eventual winners.
Solihull Village was built on 3.9 acres on the site of former Powergen offices. The office buildings had been empty for over 20 years and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council had been seeking regeneration of the site for many years. The site was the perfect choice to align with ExtraCare’s mission of creating sustainable communities that provide homes older people want, lifestyles they can enjoy and care if it’s needed.
It is not just the design that ensured the village’s place as a finalist. Solihull Village reflects ExtraCare’s unique model incorporating homes, lifestyle, care and mixed tenure, and the village boasts a vibrant community lifestyle, activities, intergenerational groups and a wellbeing service. Residents are also kept abreast of the latest technological advancements that can assist and support in later life.
Winners of the Inside Housing Development Awards will be announced on Friday 30 September 2022 at Royal Lancaster London.
