ExtraCare’s Cluster Contracts Manager takes on Virtual London Marathon
You may remember that our Cluster Contract Manager, Simon Downton, was due to take on the challenge of running the London Marathon while raising vital funds for our charity earlier this year.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the event was cancelled but his training efforts have not been in vain as he’ll be taking part in a virtual race held this Sunday, 4th October.
For the first time ever, the London Marathon will be completed by up to 45,000 runners up and down the UK – and across the world in their own way. Participants will have 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds (from midnight) to complete the journey, which they can choose to run, walk or jog – making it the most inclusive London Marathon ever.
Taking part in the virtual race is no mean feat. Simon will be attempting to run the full 26.2 miles along the Tissington Trail in Derbyshire but without the support of a crowd to cheer him along.
This is not the end of his running journey, it is only the start. Simon also has a guaranteed place in next year’s race which takes place in October 2021.
As we’re not able to attend the race and physically cheer Simon on from the side-lines, we ask that you show your support with a donation to his fundraising page at virginmoneygiving.com/simondownton.
All the funds received will go towards the delivery of our vital support services, including the dementia and mental wellbeing service, for all our residents.
We wish Simon the best of luck for Sunday.
