ExtraCare Residents Enjoy Festive Season at Winter Wonderland

700 residents from The ExtraCare Charitable Trust’s retirement villages and schemes up and down the country gathered in Nottingham for a Winter Wonderland event to celebrate the festive season.

Residents from 28 of ExtraCare’s locations, as well as local scheme Seagrave Court and retirement village Lark Hill, gathered together to watch performances and enjoy a meal together.

Acts included West End star and TV personality Darren Day, X Factor finalist Andy Abraham, comedy magician Taffy Spencer and the Diva Girls vocalists.

Winter Wonderland is one of many events that the Charity hosts for their residents throughout the year.

The day was a nonstop extravaganza, with dance troupe the Funki Feathers joining the main acts, as well as ventriloquists and close up magicians entertaining crowds throughout.

Doreen Morris, 88, who lives at Seagrave Court said: “It was really good, a great day out that makes a change from everyday life. It was also really nice as my daughter was able to attend with me.”

Betty Cormer, 92, also from Seagrave Court, said: “I really enjoyed the lovely meal as well as all the nice music they put on for us.”

Social events such as Winter Wonderland are one way that ExtraCare integrates care, housing and lifestyle for over 4,400 older people, encouraging them to live happier, less isolated lives, improving both their physical and mental health.

Research with Aston University has shown that the ExtraCare housing model is able to reduce isolation as well as resulting in a 14.8% reduction in depressive symptoms after 18 months living in a scheme or village.

This event is a great way for ExtraCare residents from all over the country to meet each other and socialise, while enjoying a festive atmosphere and fantastic entertainment.
