ExtraCare presents at virtual summit

ExtraCare’s Wellbeing Research and Innovation Lead Manager, Michael Spellman, will be offering his voice to Housing LIN’s Virtual Summit 2023 – A Festival of Ideas next week.

The week-long virtual event of inspiring conversations commences Monday, 27 February 2023. With a free session every morning and afternoon, attendees can watch, listen and learn from leading figures from the housing, health, care and technology industries.

Michael’s session Better EngAGED – a place to live’, takes place on Tuesday, 28 February at 10:00am – 11:30am. The session will focus on the work of the ExtraCare Charitable Trust and our Lottery Funded Engaged Lives programme run in ExtraCare villages which embraces older age as a period of possibilities.

The session will also explore how ExtraCare use tools such as mindfulness and cognitive behavioural approaches to remove barriers to social connectedness. Michael will then cover the development of our Friendly Faces Volunteer roles and community team.

Michael commented: “I look forward to attending the virtual summit and sharing the benefits of our Engaged Lives programme with our peers within the sector. To collectively knowledge share will help us all to have a broader idea of best practice and begin inspiring conversations that can be deeply beneficial to us all.”

Alongside Michael’s presentation will be video contributions from residents sharing how they worked collaboratively to support and befriend others at their villages and in the wider community. The residents will discuss how they made connections to overcome personal obstacles during the pandemic, and how this has been sustained since.
