ExtraCare location named GSF’s Retirement Village of the Year
ExtraCare’s Sunley Court has been honoured as the GSF’s first recipient of retirement village of the year at this year’s GSF Awards Ceremony.
Sunley Court was awarded a national Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Quality Hallmark Award in recognition of the way it cares for people at the end of life. The team received the award at the GSF annual conference and awards ceremony on Friday 29th September at The Pendulum Hotel in Manchester – a celebration of the UK’s best health and care providers for care in the final year of life.
Sunley Court were alongside seven other ExtraCare locations who received reaccreditation awards and the locations were in good company with 117 organisations from across the country receiving an award in Manchester.

Kelly Susans Location Manager at Sunley Court commented: “We are so passionate about end-of-life care and our residents having a good death, it’s no longer taboo for us which has taken a lot of hard work, patience and dedication from the entire team. The care team are outstanding at delivering and discussing end of life care. We have such a hands-on team from our care staff to senior management, to our activities and wellbeing team, we all play a part. I would just like to say how proud I am of the whole team on receiving this award.”

GSF provides end of life care training and accreditation for frontline staff in health and social care, to enable a ‘gold standard’ of care for people nearing end of life.
