Inspired by the remarkable friendship of Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow and their fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Lisa Hunt, a dedicated mother is embarking on her own meaningful challenge.
Lisa, 41, will undertake a 14-mile walk around her town to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The cause has gained significant attention thanks to the extraordinary efforts of former Leeds and Great Britain rugby league star Kevin Sinfield, who has been a driving force in fundraising since best friend Rob Burrow’s diagnosis in 2019.
Lisa will predominantly walk alone but will be joined by her eight-year-old son, Elliott, for part of the journey. With the memory of her auntie spurring her on, Lisa aims to raise both funds and awareness for one of the most devastating diseases.
She comments: “As soon as I saw Kevin carrying Rob over the finish line at the Leeds Marathon it had an impact on me and I just thought how inspirational. I thought, let’s see if we can raise a bit of money.”
The determined mum has already amassed £1400 in donations including a donation from Kevin Sinfield himself. Her employer, The ExtraCare Charitable Trust, has provided strong support, with residents of the Merseyside retirement village where she works as a catering assistant and carer generously contributing to the cause.
Lisa states: “My dream now is to reach £2,250 that provides someone with MND a text to speech device so they can communicate with their loved ones. I’m so thrilled by all of this. It’s unbelievable. I feel so very fortunate to work for such a supportive charity. Reeve Court Village is like my second family! With Kevin Sinfield himself sponsoring me I don’t know how I’ll sleep after all of this!”
Lisa’s walk, scheduled for Saturday, July 29, will commence and conclude at the Springfield pub in Thatto Heath, taking her to Dentons Green, along the East Lancs, into Moss Bank, going through Laffak, Sherdley Park, Lea Green, Elton Head Road and on to Nutgrove before concluding at Thatto Heath.
Donations can be made to support Lisa’s challenge through her JustGiving page.
