Birmingham retirement village unveils fresh new look

Refurbishment works valued at £4.2m have been completed at a popular Birmingham retirement village.

Staff and residents at the ExtraCare Charitable Trust’s New Oscott Retirement Village will now be able to enjoy a host of remodelled and upgraded spaces, including two newly constructed sales apartments, and a refurbished bar and bistro which include a stunning bistro counter and servery. Other enhancements include a wellbeing hub, a modernised gymnasium, an intergenerational play area, works to the village centre roof and balconies. Initiatives to improve biodiversity in the landscaped areas have also been implemented with the creation of bee and butterfly watering stations, wooden insect hotels, a bat house and wooden hedgehog houses.

The comprehensive revamp has been completed by Derbyshire contractor Trident Construction Services.

The 12-month project was completed in 5 phases and delivered on budget.

Hardev Thandy, Head of Growth and Construction for ExtraCare, said, “Our residents lead active, independent lives and it’s important that the communal spaces in our villages both enable and enhance this. This refurbishment is sure to positively influence wellbeing and inclusivity and we are delighted with the completed works. I would like to thank the residents and location staff of New Oscott Retirement Village for their patience, support and understanding during the modernisation works.”

Working in a live environment can be challenging, but we are delighted with the outcome. Careful planning, programme phasing and communication was vital, as was co-operation of the residents and staff, along with the client project team, we are proud to have built up a great relationship. It is a real pleasure to see those at New Oscott Village enjoying their excellent, new facilities and utilising the modernised spaces.”
