Mayoral Candidate Holds ‘Ask Andy’ Event at Bournville Gardens Retirement Village

Prospective Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, took a tour of The ExtraCare Charitable Trust’s Bournville Gardens Village in South Birmingham yesterday.

The visit to the 212 home retirement community which supports over 300 local older people is one of several ‘Ask Andy’ events where the mayoral candidate is seeking the views of the local community prior
to the election on May 4th 2017.

Mr Street, former managing director of John Lewis, was keen to hear residents’ views across a range of local issues including housing, crime, environment and transport.

Commenting after the visit, Mr Street said: “I’m keen to engage with older residents across the West Midlands and hear their views as part of a consultation strategy which engages the whole community. Residents here at Bournville Gardens Village have made a significant contribution to this City and I was keen to set out my vision for the West Midlands and hear their views on the region’s future.”

Liam Palmer, Manager of Bournville Gardens Village, commented: “We have a thriving community here representing a wide range of interests and circumstances. We welcome the opportunity to be involved in the democratic process and ensure our residents have their say.”

Bournville Gardens is one of four ExtraCare Villages currently open in Birmingham. The Charity is opening a fifth Birmingham retirement village this summer in Longbridge.
