ExtraCare's first housing scheme celebrates 30th birthday

2nd September, 2015

ExtraCare’s first Scheme, Princethorpe Court in Coventry, has celebrated its 30th birthday!

Residents and staff were joined by Nick Abbey, Cllr Ram Lakha and Stacey Baines from the nearby Herbert Art Gallery to celebrate.

Activities Co-ordinator Sandie Ball said: “Apologies came from Hildegarde Atherton, our former trustee, who opened the Scheme in 1985 but wasn’t well on the day, and the Lord Mayor also sent his apologies – he was in hospital so couldn’t make it, but his chauffeur turned up with two huge bouquets and a card wishing us well!”

Nick presented flowers to Joy King, Princethorpe’s longest staying resident. Joy has lived at Princethorpe for 23 years.

Sandie said: “She spoke briefly of the time she has spent here and of some of the activities she got up to in her earlier days like abseiling at Calvert Trust and she was the fairy godmother in pantomime, she had the other residents in stitches about her past antics.

“It was a fantastic day that would not have been if it wasn’t for the great support of all the residents and staff that helped to make it happen.”
