Many of the residents from ExtraCare’s Princethorpe Court in Coventry visited the beach this summer, but some were not able to go – so Activities Co-ordinator Sandie Ball decided to bring the seaside to them!
She explained: “Some of my residents could not come to the seaside when we went this year in May, so I thought I would bring the essence of the seaside to them!”
The day started with traditional fish and chips for lunch, served in the restaurant – which had been named “Beach Café” for the day!
Sandie added: “We followed it with fun in the sun – sandcastles were built and hook a duck was played along with a couple of other seaside games. Candy floss, sweets, popcorn and ice cream were all on offer!
“Entertainment was left to the fabulous Gerry Graham who dressed for the part in his yellow jacket and sang all the seaside favourites along with the residents, all this was followed by a cuppa and cake, along with stories of their time at the seaside when they were younger.
“All the residents were thoroughly tired by the end of the day but enjoyed every minute and want to do it all again next year!”
