100th birthday celebrations for Rita in Coventry

23rd November, 2015

Rita Stove from ExtraCare's Humber Court in Coventry has celebrated her 100th birthday in style by planting a Silver Birch Rita Friendship Tree, donated by her daughter Alison Tyler.

The birthday celebrations were attended by family members and the Lord Mayor Michael Hammond and the Lady Mayoress.

“Remaining active if you can is the secret to a long life, and ExtraCare has helped me maintain an independent lifestyle,” Rita said. “I intend to remain as active and involved as possible; she said it’s what keeps me going.”

She has lived at Humber Court since 2000 and attends exercise classes, does Tai Chi and ceramics.

Rita has 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; she maintains an independent lifestyle and requires only basic assistance within her flat. She said: “I still have much I would like to achieve providing I remain as fit as I am!”

After planting the tree, Rita returned to party through to the evening.
