Case Study - John Mills

Stroke victim John Mills (75) couldn't walk when he moved into Lovat Fields Village in February. Now, after three sessions a week in the gym under the expert guidance of Fitness Instructor Hayley West, he can take a few steps unaided.

The former international lorry driver, who suffered a stroke in his mid fifties which left him paralysed down his right side and later had a fall which broke his hip and led to him being unable to walk, says exercises in the gym are changing his life.

Hayley, who gained a degree in dance before training for health and fitness, reports that a number of disabled residents like John, who are using the gym and her training programmes, are showing remarkable improvements.

She says both residents and Friends can use the gym and there are already quite a number of outsiders taking advantage of the excellent facilities.

John adds: "In fact the Village concept itself offers a lifestyle change for the better for all residents and as my health continues to improve, I hope to tackle even more ExtraCare activities."
